"Cut off" residents will soon have a bus service to take them into a town centre following the approval of a trial period.

Arriva Bus has agreed to install a Bridgnorth town service at Farthings Court, to serve residents there and of nearby Kings Loade.

The trial period was agreed and worked on by Shropshire Council highways officers, working with councillors Les Winwood and Elliot Lynch, along with Arriva.

The aim of the trial is to see whether a bus service at this location would be used enough to give this corner of town assistance with travel arrangements. It would then become permanent.

It comes after residents in the area contacted councillors, stating they felt "cut off", with elderly people struggling to travel to and from the town centre.

Councillor Les Winwood, who represents Bridgnorth West & Tasley, said: "Residents are a bit cut off and they need something in that area to help them with their journeys.

"We were asked about the possibility of a bust stop and Elliott and I have worked over a period with officers to bring about this arrangement, which will assist all residents of Farthings Court and Kings Loade.

"We're really pleased for the residents and we're waiting for more information on when work will start."

He added: "They will erect a bus stop and do the road markings, and then they'll issue the timetable.

"I'm hoping this will end up permanent but it is a trial period to start with.

"We're pleased it's been confirmed as this is good news for that corner of the town, which will now have a link to High Town and Low Town, and all the facilities available."
