Catch of the day as osprey snatches fish

Here’s a catch of the day for the ages.

Osprey Eitha was caught on camera successfully returning with a flounder at 10:05am on Sunday

Eitha the osprey swooped into her nest in Mid Wales with a flounder at the weekend – becoming only the second to carry out a successful fishing mission in the region since they were re-introduced.

A post on the Dyfi Osprey Project’s Facebook page said: “Whowzzerr. We’re pretty sure Eitha has caught her own fish this morning.

“She returned with this flounder at 10.05am and was soaking wet. Dulas (2011) is the only other fledgling we have positively recorded as having caught a fish before starting migration. What a clever girl.”

Keen Osprey fan Lesley Haskell said: “I had a feeling this year’s bobs were going to be special.

“It worries me that usually they don’t catch their own fish before they leave.”
