Part of town evacuated after blaze at business premises
A business premises and the surrounding area were evacuated following a fire in a Mid Wales town today.
Firefighters are now investigating the cause of the blaze at the commercial property on Bridge Street, Rhayader.
Crews from Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells attended at about 9.42am.
A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue said: “The fire involved a single storey industrial unit, measuring approximately 20 metres by 30 metres, and was extinguished using two 70mm jets, two hose reel jets, two breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera.
“Edraulic spreaders and rams were also used at the incident. Dyfed Powys Police and Western Power were also in attendance.”
The fire service had dealt with the blaze by 12:50pm.
A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police added: “Dyfed-Powys Police was called just after 10.20am on Tuesday morning, to a report of a fire at a business premises in Bridge Street, Rhayader.
"The property and surrounding area were evacuated.
“A cordon was put in place and the road was closed to traffic and pedestrians for the safety of the public. The road reopened at about 2pm.”
