Glowing Ofsted report for Hinstock Primary School
Staff and students at a Shropshire school have been praised by Government inspectors after the school was given a glowing Ofsted report.
Hinstock Primary School and Hedgehogs Nursery, near Market Drayton, was found to be good, with the report noting the ‘passion and ambition of staff’ and the ‘exceptional behaviour and conduct’ of the pupils.
The report was published following a visit by Jonathan Keay, Her Majesty’s inspector, to the school on March 15.
The visit was the first short inspection carried out since the school was judged to be good in July 2012.
The report states: "The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.
"At the last inspection, Hinstock was asked to further improve standards in mathematics, to ensure that the monitoring of teaching and learning is rigorously evaluated and to make sure that the governing body checks all procedures and practice.
"Standards in mathematics have risen in both key stages as a result of high-quality staff training and a sharp focus on improving pupils’ mental mathematics skills.
"You have responded effectively to any weaknesses that have arisen since the last inspection.
"The behaviour and conduct of pupils was exceptional throughout the inspection.
"Pupils were keen to tell me about their favourite books and authors.
"Those that I spoke to at lunchtime say that behaviour is good and that they do not have any worries about bullying.
"Pupils are clearly happy at school and very much enjoy learning.
"Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities are effectively supported. This aspect of school provision is very well led and well organised.
"Teachers carefully devise well-chosen targets for pupils, which are regularly reviewed.
"Parents that I spoke to, and those that responded to the Ofsted questionnaire, also feel that their child’s needs are well met.
"As a result of the school’s work, a number of pupils have made accelerated rates of progress."
Mr Keay quoted parent's comments such as ' my children love going to this school and think the world of the teachers' and ‘ the teachers are dedicated and work really well as a team to support, encourage and nurture the children’.
Governance and leadership were regarded as good with an ‘unwavering commitment to school improvement’ being praised.
Martin Kent, chairman of governors, said: "We are all delighted with the report.
"The staff have worked exceptionally hard to make Hinstock a school where the children enjoy learning.
"We have tremendous support from our parents, governors and parent teacher association and will continue to work hard to provide a setting to reflect our vision ‘tomorrow’s success begins today’.’’
