Case of body found in Baschurch barn fire 'not suspicious', police say
The discovery of a body in a barn fire is not being treated as suspicious, police say.
Firefighters discovered the body while fighting the blaze in the barn at Baschurch, north of Shrewsbury, but a police spokesman said that it cannot be confirmed if the fire and the death are connected.
The tragedy unfolded on Saturday lunchtime in Fenemere Lane.
Detective Inspector Dafydd Jones of West Mercia Police said: “I can confirm that the police investigation of a fire at Baschurch on Saturday, August 28 and the discovery of a body in that fire has concluded, and that it appears circumstances of both the fire and the death are not believed to be suspicious.
"We are now preparing a file of evidence relating to this unfortunate incident for HM Coroner.”
Police said they cannot confirm the age or identity of the person who died.
About 20 firefighters including specialist teams went to the scene after reports of a serious barn fire were received in 999 calls shortly after 12.30pm.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said that despite the best efforts of emergency services a person was declared dead at the scene.
Firefighters alerted police officers to the fire at around 1.20pm after they recovered the body from inside the barn.
