Crew called to put out unattended bonfire in Market Drayton

Firefighters in Market Drayton were called out to extiguish an unattended bonfire today.

They received a call to Walkmill Road shortly after 9am.

It comes after Shropshire firefighters revealed this week they are being called to about a dozen controlled burns each month – costing the service as much as £40,000 a year.

Meanwhile, fire crews attended a number of minor fires in Shropshire overnight.

One crew from Telford used rakes and shovels to put out a fire involving a small quantity of hay and pallets in Granville Country Park at about 7.30pm on Friday.

Shortly after a fire engine from Tweedale attended a bin fire in the alleyway off Queen Elizabeth Way, Malinslee at 9.30pm.

Then at 2.30am one fire crew from Telford used buckets of water to put out a rubbish bin fire in Southwater Way.
