Hannah braves the shave in Market Drayton

11-year-old Hannah Dennis, from Market Drayton had her head shaved at her school with friends and family around to cheer her on.

The fundraiser, who attends Norton-in-Hales Primary School, had her head shaved to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of its national Brave the Shave campaign.

She will also be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust – a charity that provides real hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other hillinesses.

Mother Michelle said money was still being counted but a lot was coming in.

She said: "It was absolutely excellent, it could not have gone better. Hannah was very brave, she showed no emotion while it was being done – in fact she loved having her hair shaved off.

"We couldn't be prouder of her, she's done an amazing thing really.

"We don't have a total for how much we have raised yet but just the raffle alone has raised £1,400."

Hannah said: "I was scared in the morning before I had it it shaved but in the afternoon when I was having it done I wasn't really scared.

"Now I feel good about it because I'm happy to be helping children who have cancer.

"All the local businesses have been brilliant in helping us out."

Along with the shave fundraising, she has had donations from a number of businesses for the raffle.

Michelle said the King's Head pub had donated £218 from a separate raffle and they were also expecting money from the Lord Hill pub and Morrison's supermarket.

Others donating included PD Naggington, Market Drayton’s Shell garage, Hair By Marta, Tyreworks, Wilko and Sweets N Treats.
