Parents warned after needle found in Market Drayton park
Parents have been warned to stay vigilant after a needle was in a park.
The hypodermic needle was found at a park on Chancel Drive in Market Drayton shortly before 9pm on Thursday.
Police said the needle has been disposed of.
Laura Maltby, operational communications assistant for West Mercia Police, said: "Police were made aware of a report of a syringe with a needle at a park on Chancel Drive in Market Drayton shortly before 9pm on Thursday.
"The needle was disposed of. The local safer neighbourhood team are aware of the incident."
Julie Jones, town clerk for Market Drayton Town Council, said: "All town council parks and recreation areas are checked every day, 7 days a week. The areas are inspected and litter picked.
"Of course, the parks are only inspected once a day and ‘things’ may happen in between times. We can only minimise the risk, we cannot eliminate it."
A statement on Shropshire Council's website says: "If you find discarded syringes, needles or drug related items do not touch them.
"The matter will be treated with urgency and we will remove them as soon as possible.
"Please report discarded syringes or needles to us by calling our customer service centre on 0345 678 9006."
