Market Drayton Football Club broken into twice in a week

Vandals smashed windows at Market Drayton Town Football Club’s ground on Monday before breaking a door and stealing a television on Tuesday night.

Officials at the Greenfields Sports Ground in Greenfields Lane are now looking at installing CCTV at the ground.

The football club was also broken into in July where about £200 of alcohol was believed to have been taken from the club.

Club secretary Rod Pope said the club relies on every penny to pay for high quality players and that the attack is upsetting for those who work tirelessly to keep it going.

Mr Pope said: "We are in a state of shock.

"Market Drayton Town FC depends upon every penny generated to facilitate semi-professional football in Market Drayton.

"On Monday they didn't seem to take anything. They broke into the bar and looked around.

"We think they then returned on Tuesday to see if they could take any alcohol - but I had moved it following the first break-in. They did not succeed on this that time.

"On Tuesday they broke down the front door and took a TV."

The damage could cost up to £1,000 to fix, Mr Pope said.

He added: "We managed to tidy up for the game on Tuesday so we did not let the break-in get us down.

"We will now have to look at buying some CCTV to go up.

"It is something that will have to be done.

"We may have to organise a fundraising evening to raise money for it."

Police from Market Drayton Police Station said they were aware of the incidents.
