Teenager dies after crash between car and lorry in Market Drayton

A teenager has died following a crash between a car and a lorry in Market Drayton.

The crash happened at the junction of the A53 Newcastle Road and B5415 shortly before 10.40pm on Sunday.

A red Suzuki Alto was involved in the smash with a lorry which led t the road being closed for more than seven hours.

The driver of the car, a 17-year-old woman from Market Drayton, died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

Ambulance staff had found the woman inside the car in cardiac arrest.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “CPR had already been started by emergency service colleagues, which ambulance staff took over.

“However, unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

The lorry driver was assessed but did not need further treatment.

One ambulance, a paramedic officer, a community first responder and a BASICS doctor were sent to the scene.

The road was closed until 6am today.

Staffordshire Police are leading the investigation into the crash. A force spokesman said: "Her family are receiving the appropriate care and support from specially trained officers and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
