Actors tread the boards as rehearsals continue for first live performance
Actors have been treading the boards as rehearsals for one of the first live performances in the country this year continue in Shropshire.
The play Relatively Speaking will be performed at the Soulton Hall open air theatre in Wem from next Thursday, and the cast and director are well underway with preparations.
The cast for the witty garden comedy is made up of Shrewsbury’s Adrian Monahan and Rosie Byrd of Bishop’s Castle, as well as Londoners Victoria Porter and Tom Thornhill.
Director Robin Case said: "Although Relatively Speaking opens in Greg and Ginny’s London flat, all the following scenes take place in Philip and Sheila’s garden. It’s June, and the garden furniture is about to come out – and Sunday breakfast begin. But why do Greg and Ginny arrive – and upset everything? Confusion and misunderstanding ensue. But will it all work out in the end."
He added: “Last year in lockdown, Tim Ashton at Soulton Hall built the open-air theatre to help give actors a chance to make some money. I thought I would love to help and provide some work for struggling actors, and I’ve got a terrific cast.
“It’s a witty, garden comedy which is just right for the open air theatre."
