Charm the Clydesdale horse, a firm favourite with youngsters at Park Hall Farm in Oswestry, has been put to sleep this week at the ripe old age of 25.

Martyn Hughes, managing director at Park Hall Farm, said it was a "sad time" for staff and visitors alike at the farm.

He said: "What can I say really, she was Charm by name, charming by character. She was a loyal, faithful lady with a smile for everyone.

"We've had her from virtually day one, so she's grown up with at least three generations which is really special and what it's all about.

"Even in her older years she still had a smile for everyone, she was a real gentle giant and I know she'll be missed by everyone."

Mr Hughes said Charm's old age was the reason for her declining health and why she was put to sleep.

Staff at the farm announced the news to the local community and visitors via its Facebook page this week.

The post read: "It is with great sadness we have to announce that Charm our lovely Clydesdale horse has had to be put to sleep. Thank you Charm for all the happiness you have given to all our visitors and staff over the years.R.I.P Charm 1992 -2017."
