Signatories are adding their names to our campaign all the time, showing the strength of feeling across the county and beyond.

The Shropshire Star is calling on roads minister John Hayes to include the A5 between Montford Bridge, north of Shrewsbury, and the Welsh border at Chirk in the Government’s national roads strategy and upgrade it to a dual carriageway.

We want to see 10,000 signatures on the Dual It petition so that it can be presented to the government.

Among those going on line to sign it yesterday were hundreds of people who said the road as it is today was simply too dangerous.

North Shropshire MP, Owen Paterson, said he was pleased so many people were joining in the campaign.

He said it was an absolute priority to make the road a dual carriageway. Over the past 12 months he has brought two ministers to the area, driving them the length of the single carriageway section so they could see the problems for themselves.

They also climbed aboard a tractor to cross the notorious Shotatton crossroads as farmers and other local road users have to do daily.

The dangers have been flagged up by many of those signing the Dual It petition.
