Building bridges to Uganda with world music event
A world music evening will be held at the weekend to help the people of Uganda build a future for themselves
The event on Saturday in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant village hall will fund 'permaculture' courses in the African county, which give the students the ideas and techniques to farm and live in a way that gives back to the land.
Olly Boon, one of those involved in the project, said: "Permaculture offers solutions to the world's major issues and in reality is the best thing we’ve got to make a real transformation in the world today."
He said the organisation, Sector 39, had been working in Uganda for three years with some amazing results.
Proceeds from Saturday will help fund students to enable them to go on the course.
"Uganda has one of the fastest growing populations in the world with the average age under 18 and over a million refugees entering the the country in the last 12 months," he said.
The evening, entitled World-Bridger is billed as a party with a purpose.
There will be entertainment from musicians including Jonathan Day, Andy Hickey, Sue, Ritchie and the Big Bad Wolf, Bruno Levelin, Steve Jones the founder of Sector 39 and Olly Boon as well as from DJs. There will also be a silent auction and a curry supper.
