Police confirm death of woman at Chirk Aqueduct

A woman has died after an incident at a beauty spot close to the north Shropshire border.

Police say they were called shortly before 8am on Friday to a "concern for safety incident on Chirk Aqueduct."

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We were called shortly before 8am today to a concern for safety incident on Chirk Aqueduct.

"Officers attended the scene, where a woman sadly died."

The police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and her family, and the coroner’s office, have been informed.

Police had advised people to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called today at approximately 8.19am, to an incident at Chirk Aqueduct.

"We sent one rapid response vehicle and one emergency ambulance to the scene. We were supported by colleagues from the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service.”
