Bomb squad called after grenade is found in Oswestry

A grenade that caused a scare when it was found in Oswestry was fortunately inactive, police have confirmed.

Explosive ordnance disposal officers were called to Morda Road in Oswestry on Sunday, to reports of a grenade in an outbuilding.

West Mercia Police attended, promptly cordoned off the road and called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who removed the device.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called on Sunday at around 10.50am following the discovery of a hand grenade.

"A cordon was briefly in place while experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended and examined the device. It was found to be inactive."
