Worker rescued from Shrewsbury hospital roof after fall
A contractor had to be rescued from the roof of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital today after falling while working.
Fire crews were called to the scene at about 10.50am to assist ambulance crews after the man fell and injured his ankles.
Chris White, station manager at Shrewsbury, said: "I was called by fire control at 10.51am to attend at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to assist the ambulance service.
"I went on my own to assess the scene and saw what support we could provide.
"There was a man, a contractor who had been working on the roof near the old maternity unit, he had fallen and had injuries to both of his ankles.
"The issue was how to get this gentleman down.
"We mobilised one aerial ladder platform and a support appliance from Shrewsbury and used the aerial ladder platform to safely retrieve the gentleman from the roof."
Kath Titley, health and safety manager at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “We are aware of a minor incident involving a contract worker who was working on site at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”
The situation was resolved by about 12noon.
