Taskforce to scrutinise roadworks next month

Shropshire Council’s performance management scrutiny committee has set up a task and finish group, which will meet for one day next month to look at the roadworks completed around Shrewsbury since 2017.

This group will scrutinise how Shropshire Council has managed and carried out recent major roadworks in Shrewsbury, plans the work carried out as part of the Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Package (SITP) to minimise disruption, communicates planned roadworks to residents, businesses, councillors and others, co-ordinates roadworks with utility companies and private developers, and mitigates against - and compensates for - disruption to local businesses.

The group will present its final report to the performance management scrutiny committee at its meeting on July 11. Any recommendations agreed by the scrutiny committee will be passed to cabinet for their consideration.

The news comes after Shrewsbury Town Council's leader Alan Mosley called for urgent action to be taken over the issues caused by successive roadworks.

In recent weeks Pride Hill has been affected and before that Wyle Cop was hit by nine weeks of disruption.

Much work in the town is being carried out as part of £12 million Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Package being completed by Shropshire Council.

The authority has argued that the work will improve traffic flow in the town.
