Driver rushed to hospital after crashing into hedge near Shrewsbury

A driver had to be rushed to hospital in Stoke after crashing into a hedge near Shrewsbury.

A man in his 20s was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital "on alert" as he had chest and pelvic injuries after the crash in Old Woods, Bomere Heath, at about 9pm yesterday.

Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 9.13pm to Old Woods, Bomere Heath to reports of a car that had crashed into a hedge.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended.

"We've treated a man in his 20s, he was the driver and he managed to get himself out of the car.

"He was treated for chest and pelvic injuries, he was immobilised and given pain relief and was taken on alert to the Royal Stoke University Hospital."

Firefighters and police were also sent to the scene.

The road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
