Two ambulances and an air ambulance were sent to the A528 Shrewsbury Road, Albrighton, at 9.45am after the incident which also blocked the road.

The patient had advanced life support and then was flown to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Lucy Kelly, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police were called to reports of an individual having come off their bike on Shrewsbury Road, Albrighton, at approximately 10am this morning which is why the road was closed off.

"A man in his 70s has been taken to hospital for treatment."

In a separate incident, another patient has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after a crash in Montford Bridge, Nesscliffe, just before 11am.
