Shrewsbury 10K route is mapped out
Runners are putting the final touches to their training programmes ahead of the Shrewsbury 10k race which takes place next weekend.
Attracting approximately 2,500 entries, the event is one of the highlights of the Shropshire running calendar.
After being cancelled in March due to the snowy weather the event will now take place on July 22.
The race will start at 9am with a number of roads closed from 8.30am. The last runners are expected back at approximately 11.30am and roads will be reopened at this time, or earlier where possible.
Vehicle access to properties will be maintained but some long delays may be experienced whilst there are runners on the route. Pre-event road signs are now in place around the town and all major access routes.
“We are excited to finally be able to deliver the race which has been eagerly awaited ever since the snowfall caused disruption back in March” said race director Tom Meehan. “We greatly appreciate the support of the local council, residents and businesses for our event and look forward to seeing them cheering runners on once again”
The route is: High Street, Shoplatch, Bellstone, Barker Street Welsh Bridge, Frankwell, The Mount, Richmond Drive, Copthorne Road, New Street, Porthill Road, Roman Road, Kennedy Road, Kingsland Road, Longden Coleham, Coleham Head, English Bridge, St Julian’s Crescent, The Quarry, Victoria Avenue, St Austin’s Friars, St Austin’s Street, Barker Street, Bellstone, St John’s Hill, Cross Hill, Swan Hill, College Hill, Princess Street, Milk Street, and High Street.
