Shrewsbury Fish Bar, in Tilstock Crescent, has been crowned the Shropshire Star's Chip Shop of the Year 2018.

Chippies were rated by the number of tokens handed in by readers, while there was also a mystery shopper element which saw the takeaway taste tested.

Ray Mustafa, who runs Shrewsbury Fish Bar, said he was "over the moon" when he found out they had won yet again.

"We're really pleased, it's hard work but it's paid off," he said.

"It's like everything, hard work and determination, good quality, we put everything into what we do.

"The customers appreciate good quality food and a clean shop and consistency.

"We're over the moon, really chuffed, my staff work so hard here."

Andy Maxwell, circulation manager at the Shropshire Star, said: "Thank you to everyone who engaged, it was a great result.

"Ray really engaged with this yet again. It is great to recognise all their hard work and dedication.”

The runner up was The Shire Fryer, in London Road, Shrewsbury, while Ludlow Fish Bar, in Upper Galdeford, claimed third place.
