Teen runs 100km for charity

Instead of playing computer games or watching TV this summer, a teenager made it his mission to run 100km to raise money for charity.

Charlie Howard, from Westbury, near Shrewsbury, is a student at Shrewsbury Colleges Group, and hopes to join the RAF as a physical training instructor after he finishes.

The 17-year-old decided to take on the mammoth 62-mile run on Wednesday tackling part of the Trans Pennine Trail from Liverpool to Manchester to raise funds for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

The run took him 14 hours to complete.

Charlie said: "It was ok, I had to stop for a bit as my knee was acting up.

"It was difficult, there's no two ways about it, half way through I felt frankly fed up, but it's a determination thing.

"I decided to knuckle down and get on with it.

"It's the RAF's 100th anniversary and I have a history of signing myself up for stupid things.

"Two years ago I decided to cycle 100km for the Duke of Edinburgh and I raised £120.

"I've raised about £500 so far and hope to raise a total of £1,000."
