More than 400 objections over Shrewsbury Oxon Link Road plan
More than 400 objections have now been raised over the proposed Oxon Link Road in Shrewsbury.
Businesses and residents have submitted objections to Shropshire Council over the £12 million plan, and to date there have been 433 comments of concern, and just one in support.
The Oxon Link Road, which would be a two-lane carriageway about one mile in length, is anticipated to be complete by 2021 if it gains planning approval.
A number of concerns have been raised over the road including a lack of information provided, noise and light pollution, and the impact on local businesses.
The road would connect the Churncote roundabout on the A5 to the Holyhead Road at Oxon.
Bicton Parish Council and the Shropshire councillor for Tern have also voiced their concerns about the proposed road, while Shrewsbury Town Council has remained neutral.
Concerns have also previously been raised by Severn Trent Water and the managing director of Shrewsbury-based Morris Leisure, Edward Goddard.
Matt Johnson, Shropshire Council’s strategic transport and contracts manager, has said the Oxon Link Road would remove traffic from Welshpool Road, and welcomed further comments.
