Entries open for the half marathon
Entries have opened and a date has been set for the 2019 Shrewsbury Half Marathon.
Attracting runners from all over the country, the race returns on October 6.
This year's race, which took place in June, saw 1,500 entrants take on the undulating course which threaded its way through the town before runners headed out in to the countryside. before returning to Shrewsbury to 'conquer the Cop'.
The event offers a perfect mix of history and scenery, the 13.1-mile course taking runners through Shrewsbury city centre and out into the beautiful Shropshire countryside.
Once again a team of pacers will be helping runners to achieve their targets and there will be entertainment at the race village at the Greenhous West Mid Showground on Berwick Road where the half marathon starts and finishes.
The race will welcome an increased capacity for 2019 and feature two new race distances – a Family 1.1 Mile for families and young runners, plus a Cumulative Half Marathon where participants run 12 miles in their own time and complete the final 1.1 mile on race day.
Together, the races open the event up to all ages and abilities and will contribute to the atmosphere on the day.
Specialist running retailer Up & Running, which has a shop on Mardol returns as official sports retail partner for the half marathon, providing runners with everything they need for race day as well as expert advice on all things running.
A spokesman for the organisers said: "We took over the running of Shrewsbury Half Marathon in 2016 and are looking forward to building on the hard work of the last three years by welcoming friends, old and new, to take part in the 2019 event.
"For 2019 we are delighted to confirm a new autumn date but the same, much-loved course combining a beautiful mix of history and scenery."
Entry to half marathon includes a bespoke medal; technical t-shirt; goody bag; free pre and post-race massage and free race photos worth £19.99.
Early bird entry, which is available until October 31, costs £26 per person (affiliated)/£28 (non-affiliated).
