Shrewsbury firm builds on its charitable success
A house building firm in Shrewsbury has collected more than £6,000 for charity this autumn with a range of fund raising activities.
Galliers Homes, which builds housing developments throughout the county, recently handed over the money to Macmillan Cancer Support in Shropshire.
The vast majority of the amount was raised at the charity’s annual world championship coracle race in Shrewsbury, when Galliers and its sister company Cameron Homes entered a record-breaking 10 teams.
“We were also main sponsors of the race so really got behind the annual championships in an attempt to raise thousands of pounds for this worthwhile cause,” said Louise Dwyer, technical manager of Galliers Homes, based on Shrewsbury Business Park.
In addition the firm organised two of drop-in events at its Bomere Green site in Bomere Heath and Abbots Lea development in Hadnall as part of Macmillan’s World Largest Coffee Morning initiative.
Site managers helped to serve the tea and cakes and at Bomere Green Galliers’ forklift driver Thomas Griffiths got involved by shaving his head and eyebrows to help raise money.
Receiving the donation of £6,008, Kate Thomas of Macmillan Cancer Research in Shropshire said: “This year was the 11th year of the Coracle World Championships and we were delighted that Galliers Homes were the headline sponsors.
“The race in its entirety has raised over £43,000 this year and the incredible £6,000 collected solely by Galliers Homes for the event itself and their additional coffee mornings is fantastic and we are sincerely grateful for their involvement."
