Shrewsbury charity finds homes for 920 dogs

From border collies to boxers, greyhounds to German shepherds and terriers to trailhounds, the team at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury have waved a fond farewell to 920 four-legged friends.

Manager Louise Campbell said: “We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has adopted a dog from us or supported us in any way.

“Without the year-round support of dog lovers from across the region and beyond we wouldn’t be able to care for the dogs as we do, giving them everything they need whilst they are with us and of course we wouldn’t be able to have the joy of seeing them head home with their families.”

However, despite finding forever homes for so many dogs, over the festive season and into 2019 the team at the rehoming centre will be looking after at least 90 dogs who are still waiting for someone to fall in love with them.

Dogs currently without a home include six-year-old akita, Huggie, nine-year-old crossbreed Will and 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier, Tess, who is blind.

Louise added: “Huggie is a gorgeous big teddy bear who loves meeting new people and enjoys a gentle fuss, whilst Will’s favourite thing is to be out and about meeting up with doggy pals. He is also very clever and likes to learn new things in return for a tasty treat.

“Tess is a lovely older lady and the fact that she is blind doesn’t stop her enjoying life to the full. She loves playing with her toys and going for walks.

“It would be wonderful if all of these dogs could find their ideal homes. We hope that anyone who is looking to welcome a dog into their lives in 2019 visits us.”

Huggie is looking for a home with active, experienced dog owners who will enjoy taking him to training classes and helping him to become the best that he can be. He can live with children over the age of 10.

Will likes to play with his toys and burn off his energy with a high-speed run around.

He can be unsure in new situations and is wary of men that he doesn’t know, so he is looking for a quiet adult-only home.

Another pooch looking for a home is Tess, who is 10 and blind.

She would like a home where she is the only pet so she can enjoy all the love on offer. She can live with children around the age of 12 but possibly younger if they have dog experience.
