The sun shone on Myddle’s first ever village Scarecrow Event and more than 250 people came to see the 31 entrants which varied from stereotypical scarecrows to an astronaut caught up in a tree and even A Fantastic Mrs Fox.

There were prizes on offer for the top three scarecrows which were third prize for “Aaarnie” the pirate awarded a hamper full of chocolate goodies, second prize went to the “Phishing” scarecrow which even had a mechanised fishing rod and he won a bottle of champagne and the winning Scarecrow was “Donald Trump Trying to Build a Wall” with a top prize of £50.

The whole event was organised by The Myddle Community Events Committee led by chairperson Linda Savage and all the proceeds raised are split equally between the Myddle CE Primary School, St Peters Church and Myddle Village Hall. Funds were raised through sponsors advertising on the scarecrow map, map sales, teas and cakes served in the village hall and a tombola. Over £600 was raised and the whole event was deemed a great success with lots of interest for another similar event next year.

Organiser Claire Simcox said: "Many thanks goes to all the sponsors, Myddle Community Events Committee, everyone who attended but most of all thanks goes to all the scarecrow entrants whom without all their hard work and wonderful imagination and creativity the event wouldn’t have been a success it was."
