The accident happened just after 1.30pm on the B4380 Shrewsbury to Buildwas road, at the junction with the B4394 next to Wroxeter Roman City.

An air ambulance from Cosford was sent to the scene with an emergency doctor onboard, along with three land ambulances and a paramedic officer.

Three female patients were treated, but the severity of their injuries is not yet known.

Two cars were involved

Two fire appliances from Shrewsbury were also sent and although no one was trapped crews made the vehicles safe.

Pictures taken in the aftermath of the crash showed a badly damaged white car left straddling the junction as collision investigators examined the scene.

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

"The air ambulance with a MERIT doctor, three land ambulances and a paramedic officer attended. There were three female patients who received treatment."

The crash was one of several incidents on Shropshire roads today.

In Newport an overturned tractor led to long delays on the A41 bypass and surrounding roads, while a collision between a lorry and a car caused disruption at Dobbies Roundabout on the A5 in Shrewsbury.
