And it will be accompanied by a bonanza of railway books and magazines with a big sell-off to free up space.

Having been based at Shrawardine for many years, Shrewsbury Model Railway Group is now in the heart of the county town, in Shrewsbury Railway Heritage Trust's Abbey Station building at Abbey Foregate.

David Morris, of the trust, said: "This very enthusiastic group, who work on the larger ‘O’ gauge railway models, will be holding a celebration.

“There will be a working layout on display, and members will also host active demonstrations on modelling throughout the day.

"The exhibition will start at 10am and close at 3pm. Entrance is free of charge, and we welcome townsfolk and tourists.

“Visitors to our events over the last year will have noticed that we have built up a very large volume of railway-related literature. This is now taking up a lot of storage space, and so we really do need to find some new homes for all of these books and magazines.

"We are only asking for a nominal £1 per book, and just 10p for the magazines.

"Although very small, these contributions do tend to mount up quite quickly, and we are hoping that any money collected on the day will help us to start work on a very exciting new project, the detail of which is due to be featured in an upcoming edition of ‘Abbey Lines,’ our members' Newsletter.”
