Shrewsbury Flower Show: Preparations well underway
With less than two weeks to go, preparations are well underway for this year's Shrewsbury Flower Show.
Construction workers have been busy erecting the huge marquees that will house thousands of blooms on show day in the Quarry.
While gardeners and growers are putting the final tweaks to their designs and displays in preparation for the show, which some people rate as one of the best in the country, workers have moved on site and the park has now become a hive of activity.

This year's show gets underway on August 9 and the line up includes celebrity gardener David Domoney from ITV’s Love Your Garden, John Torode, the well-loved culinary expert from Masterchef, live music from Scouting For Girls on Saturday night, and high octane arena thrills from The Imps Motorcycle Display Team. Gary Mullen and The Works – Queen Tribute band will perform to audiences on Friday, along with local choirs Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir on Friday, and Of One Accord on Saturday.
Each night of the two day show, there will be a huge fireworks display which will light up the night's sky while in the main arena there will be showjumping, motorcycle displays and even a spot of duck herding.
The show is now in its 132nd year and brings thousands of visitors to the town.
Andrew Cross, chair of the Shropshire Horticultural Society, said: “This year marks the 132nd Shrewsbury Flower Show and we are delighted to have lined up another exciting programme of activities, experts, entertainment, and live music.
“We are really excited to welcome amateur and professional competitors in our floral marquees, many of the displays we are expecting to see will be simply stunning, and a real treat.
“The show is a major event on the British horticultural calendar and we are confident that this year will be another outstanding success.”
Entry to the show is free for children aged 15 years and under when accompanied by a paying adult and the designated Children’s Area offers free activities, alongside a host of trade stands, wide selection of food and drink options, and the fireworks display to close the show on both days.
