Shrewsbury Streetscape Project has been developed by artist and architect James St Clair Wade.

He is creating unique images of the town centre’s prettiest locations.

James’ latest work is Mardol East, which features the shop fronts of Nerdy Coffee Co, Jessops, Paws Cafe and Pizza Express among others, which are all visible beneath the stunning architecture of the buildings.

James has been working on the project for the last two years and still has plenty he wants to do.

James said: “It’ll be nice to have a record of this moment in time. I’m hoping that in years to come people will look at them like we do now with old photographs, remembering what the town was like once upon a time.”

His wife Katriona said James next planned to recreate Shoplatch.

“Two years ago James started the project in April 2019,” she said.

“He’s just finished drawing Pride Hill and is currently working along Castle Foregate down towards the castle.

“Both sides of Wyle Cop, High Street, Mardol, Quarry Place, and St John’s Hill are now complete.”

During his architectural career, James has completed conservation work on some of Shrewsbury’s most famous buildings including the Old Market Hall, St Alkmund’s Church – for which he won two top industry awards for best church restoration – and Trinity Centre Church in Meole Brace.
