Little Bags of Kindness, a group set up to support various local causes, has launched a school shoes swap initiative to help mums and dads struggling to keep up with the cost of buying more and more.

Mums Sasha Ford and Ruth Pemberton, along with fellow group member Sophie Tindall, came up with the idea after spotting a need.

Now they have linked up with Morrison's in Shrewsbury and Shoe-be-do in Frankwell to be collection points, and are looking to get schools on board with the scheme.

Sasha said: "We know how hard it is for parents to afford school shoes. It is really expensive to put shoes on your kids' feet.

"We thought this would be a good way to help parents. Clothing waste is also a huge problem for the environment."

The Little Bags of Kindness group was set up in October last year, and as well as weekly acts of kindness within the Shrewsbury community, it has given out 500 goodie bags for vulnerable families fleeing abuse and 200 bags for dementia patients, which included knitted blankets.

Sasha added: "We decided there was a need for a community support group that didn't have a specific focus, that could assess things on a weekly or monthly basis and offer support in an area that needs it."
