Inquest to open for former Shrewsbury Town favourite Steve Jagielka

An inquest into the death of former Shrewsbury Town midfielder Steve Jagielka is due to open next week.

The 43-year-old, who was a fans' favourite at Gay Meadow in the late 1990s and early 2000s, died in Telford on March 15.

The inquest is due to open on Tuesday, May 18.

Mr Jagielka made 207 appearances for Salop, scoring 23 goals. He also played for AFC Telford, Market Drayton Town and Ellesmere Rangers.

The Sale-born player, whose brother Phil was an England international, played in Shrewsbury Town's memorable great escape victory at Exeter in 2000 and the historic FA Cup win over Everton in 2003.
