Flower power bringing smiles in care homes
Flower power will bring joy to pensioners as they brighten up care homes around a town.
Radbrook Care Home in Shrewsbury is one of the homes to benefit from a scheme from Morrisons in Harlescott, which has given out 9,000 seeds to care homes and schools as it looks to bring a splash of colour to the town of flowers.
Now recipients are looking forward to seeing their flowers come into bloom over the next few weeks.
Carla Taylor, community champion at Morrisons, said: "We've given away seeds across Shrewsbury. We gave them to 12 schools and six care homes. They all had between 100 and 200.
"They're starting to come in now and everyone is following the progess. I'm looking forward to everyone sending their pictures in."
It is all part of a wider national project by Morrisons to spread positivity and ease feelings of loneliness. Children have also been writing postcards to old folks as well as family members they miss, after Morrisons distributed half a million cards to schools.
David Potts, CEO of Morrisons, said: “Customers write to me weekly to express their gratitude and we wanted to let them know we will continue to be here for them. We hope these messages will put a smile on people’s faces up and down the country.”
