Inquest opens into death of ex-Shrewsbury Town star Steve Jagielka
An inquest has been opened into the death of former Shrewsbury Town midfielder Steve Jagielka.
The 43-year-old, who was a fans' favourite at Gay Meadow in the late 1990s and early 2000s, died in Telford on March 15.
The inquest at Shirehall in Shrewsbury heard that police received a call to his home in Rodington, between Wellington and Shrewsbury and that . there were no signs of life.
Coroner's officer Clare Hope said there was no third party involvement and "no suspicious circumstances" relating to his death.
John Ellery, senior coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, adjourned the inquest until September 14.
Mr Jagielka made 207 appearances for Salop, scoring 23 goals. He also played for Stoke City, Sheffield United, AFC Telford, Market Drayton Town and Ellesmere Rangers.
The Sale-born player, whose brother Phil was an England international, played in Shrewsbury Town's memorable great escape victory at Exeter in 2000 and the historic FA Cup win over Everton in 2003.
