Shrewsbury will have its first ever duck hunt

Twenty of Shrewsbury’s town centre retailers and hospitality venues have joined together to launch the Shrewsbury Duck Hunt, which is the quackers idea of Andy Evans.

Andy, who owns the Shrewsbury Duck Store, said the hunt is intended as a fun way of getting families to explore Shrewsbury, have fun, and potentially visit some shops that they’d not normally go to. He said: “It’s been great to see more and more people coming out over the past month since non-essential retail re-opened and having chatted to a number of the other independent retailers, we were keen to stage something that would encourage shoppers to visit parts of the town that might not have been to for a while.”

The hunt, which will be entirely based within the loop of the river, will require participants to find an Original Shrewsbury branded duck in each of the hunt locations. The hunt has the support of Shrewsbury BID and Seb Slater, executive director, said: “The independent businesses that Shrewsbury is so well-known for don’t fail to amaze me in their continuing inventiveness and commitment to work together for the benefit of the whole town centre.

“When Shrewsbury Duck Store approached us with the idea for a duck-related hunt around the town, we were more than happy to support and look forward to seeing as many people as possible taking part.”

The hunt, which runs from Saturday, May 29 until Saturday, June 5, is being supported by a dedicated website - shrewsburyduckhunt.co.uk – from which entry forms can be downloaded. Paper copies will also be available from Vinterior on Wyle Cop, No 61 on Mardol, and from Shrewsbury Duck Store in the Darwin Centre.

A series of visual clues are being released via the Shrewsbury Duck Store’s Facebook and Instagram accounts accompanied by the hashtag #ShrewsburyDuckHunt in the run up to the hunt launching, and those who complete the hunt are being encouraged to drop their completed entry forms off to the Duck Store to be in with a chance of claiming one of a number of special prizes.
