Ex-Shrewsbury nightclub bouncer used unlicensed door supervisor after 'trusting friend'

A former serviceman who trusted the word of a friend has been fined after admitting using an unlicensed door supervisor at a Shrewsbury nightclub.

Kenneth Bailey, aged 62, of Cordwell Park, in Wem, pleaded guilty to using an unlicensed security operative at The Buttermarket in shifts between July 10 and November 2, 2021.

Magistrates in Doncaster were told that Bailey had been acting as a manager for a company called Ace Security. Bailey had been prosecuted by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

Andrew Holland, of Hatchers Solicitors, mitigating, said Bailey, an ex-serviceman, is of excellent good character with no previous convictions.

Bailey has been a door operative in Shrewsbury since 1979 and the company he was working for – Ace Security – used his "excellent connections".
