Man arrested and another in hospital after gun fired in Shrewsbury fight
A man has been arrested after police were called to a report of a fight in Shrewsbury, which involved a firearm.
Officers were called at around 7pm on Thursday to reports of two men fighting on Mytton Oak Road.
During the incident, a firearm was discharged causing a 23-year-old man to suffer a minor hand injury.
A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear and is currently in police custody.
The Co-op, Coral betting shop, Copthorne fish bar and Boots all appeared to be taped off on Friday.
West Mercia Police said in a statement: "Officers are on patrol in the area to offer reassurance to concerned residents.
"Enquiries are on-going and detectives are appealing for witnesses."
Chief Inspector Mark Reilly added: “We know incidents of this nature can be concerning for our local communities and will have officers, including police community support officers, in the area to offer reassurance. If anyone is concerned I would urge them to speak to an officer.
“Our enquiries into the incident are on-going and we have a man in police custody. If anyone has information that could help with our enquiries please get in contact.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service, who took the wounded man to hospital, said: "We were called to reports of a patient with gunshot injuries on Mytton Oak Road at 7.11pm.
"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.
"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was treated for minor injuries before being taken to hospital for further treatment."
West Mercia Police added: "Any witnesses can contact police on (01743) 237437 - DS Alex Sullivan.
