National Grid reported a fault on the overhead network in the SY5 area including Cross Houses, Berrington and Condover at 9.07am on Thursday.

At about 2.30pm another 693 homes in the SY5, TF13 and TF8 area around Buildwas and Farley were knocked out.

Engineers were reported to be on their way at 4pm with an estimated restoration time of 6pm. An estimated 509 customers were reported to be without power at that time.

At its height some 633 properties in the SY5 area were hit by the power cut. But engineers have managed to restore supply to the majority.

Customers in the remaining 85 properties could have their energy supply restored by 6pm this evening, National Grid says on its website.

Both cuts were put down to faults on the overhead network.

The company has been asked if there is a connection to the high winds being experienced across the county today.
