Shrewsbury PCSO donates her kidney to 10-year-old Slovakian great-niece
A Shrewsbury police community support officer (PCSO) has donated one of her kidneys to her 10-year-old Slovakian relative, after the little girl was told she would die without one.

Karen Blakemore has been patrolling Shropshire's county town for the last 17 years as a PCSO.
When she heard her nephew's daughter was sick, the 64-year-old stepped forward to donate one of her organs.
Karen said Eliška Marková fell ill when she was just eight, and by the time the little girl was 10, was receiving dialysis four times a week.
“She had no life,” said Karen, explaining that Eliška had developed cysts on both kidneys. “By October 2023, her consultant in Slovakia said she needed a transplant but that they would not do it in Slovakia. He recommended a hospital in Turkey, and my nephew flew over with her.
