Big swarm at Broseley house is unbee-lievable

It looks like something out of a horror film – but these thousands of bees were outside a house in Shropshire.

Rachel Washington thought a group of children were just mucking about when she saw them hanging around outside her home in Broseley.

But when the private banker went down to her garden she quickly spotted what had grabbed their attention.

"It was dead silent," the mother-of-two said. "There was no buzzing. They were just there. I got as close as I dared for the picture.

"The swarm of bees was huge. I have never seen anything like it. There was at least a couple of thousand bees across both sides.

"I don't mind bees, but I wasn't going to get any closer."

Rachel, who lives off Wilkinson Avenue, called around a number of companies to collect the bees when she spotted them at about 3.30pm on Wednesday.

But she soon realised her home wasn't the only one to be hit by the swarm.

"There was someone already out in the avenue at another house collecting the bees," she said. "There have been two or three swarms that I know of around the same area.

"The bees seemed quite calm. There were kids walking up to them and getting quite close.

"The man was there for about an hour to collect them. He said they just follow the queen. They were most likely just stopping for a rest, protecting the queen bee."
