Shropshire pubs work together to take in holidaying family left stranded during Storm Babet
Two Shropshire pubs stepped in to help a stranded family after all roads to their holiday cottage destination had been flooded during Storm Babet.
The family, who had travelled from Sheffield and were headed to Llandrindod Wells in Powys, found themselves in a difficult situation on Friday as flood water blocked their journey beyond Shropshire.
Jacqueline Guthrie, who runs the Hundred House in Purslow near to Craven Arms said this is what pubs are for – a place of refuge from the storm.
But she said, "pubs are struggling" and if people do not band together to support them, they will lose a valuable asset which serves local communities.
"A lady came in on Friday, she had her mobile phone with her and she just looked ashen," Jacqueline said.
"I said to her 'what's up lovely?' and she said 'we have booked a holiday and we are trying to get to Llandrindod Wells and we have just been driving around for hours and hours'."
