South Shropshire campaign group hosts plastic-free picnic

Stretton Climate Care, which is based in Church Stretton will be hosting the picnic on August 24 between 12pm-3pm in Rectory Field, Church Lane and those attending should bring a “single use plastic free” picnic …. no cling film, plastic based crisp bags, single use plastic pots or other items.

Jon Cooke, publicity officer for Stretton Climate Care said: "There are already an increasing number of local shops selling produce without plastic and the charity are compiling a data base which shows which shops sell products without plastic, offer only paper bags or compostable containers. There will be information boards, recycling activities and some games for all ages. The picnic goers are also invited to bring along plastic free alternatives they have found and to share these ideas.

"Since last autumn Stretton Climate Care have been working with local traders to list plastic free produce available and less common recycling opportunities they offer. Almost half the shops in the town now display a window sticker stating they are “cutting down on plastic,” and we are looking forward to seeing more progress in the coming months.”
