It was claimed the parking enforcement officer was seen attempting to park his car on ground at Ludlow Rugby Club.

He was tackled by club chairman Andy Wright on Monday morning who said the warden told him he was on his way to the nearby Linney car park to ticket unsuspecting motorists.

Mr Wright claimed the warden admitted he did not have permission to park on the club ground but said he did not need to get permission.

When Mr Wright he warned the warden his car would be towed off the land, he said he promptly turned round and left.

The club has now made an official complaint to Shropshire Council about the enforcement officer’s actions but has been told it may take up to six weeks for the investigation to take place.

As an official complaint has been made, Shropshire Council declined to give a comment.

Mr Wright said: “I thought he was just turning his car around but he parked, got out and walked away. I challenged him on it and asked who had given him permission to park here and he said no one. He said he was going to the Shropshire Council-owned car park nearby.

“I told him to move his car or he would be towed and he did move eventually but it’s outrageous. There’s signs up to say it’s private.

“I have told him in no uncertain terms that if we catch him parking there again his vehicle will be blocked in.”

About 40 people pay the club to park on their land every day to avoid the charges set by the local authority on The Linney car park.

Mr Wright added: “We contract park as a way to generate income and keep running throughout the year. So for him to think he can just park here for free is ridiculous.

“It’s not very fair if traffic wardens park for free on our ground while issuing tickets to unsuspecting motorists nearby.”

Mr Wright posted photos of the enforcement officer on social media, creating dozens of comments.

Some were flabbergasted by the man’s actions while others suggested taking matters in to their own hands.
