Supermarket shoppers have helped to pay for a brand new playground at the Severn Hospice.

The Mayor of Telford & Wrekin Council, Councillor Stephen Reynolds, was on hand at the charity's site at Apley Castle to help unveil the new play area.

It comes, after Severn Hospice was able to secure a grant from Tesco earlier in the year.

The charity was one of three local causes to benefit from Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme which sees community projects across the UK receive a share of money raised from the 5p charge levied on single use carrier bags.

Leeanne Morgan, sister at Severn Hospice Telford, said: “The new play area looks absolutely fantastic and will provide an area for children and families visiting the hospice to use if they need a break from what can be the most difficult of times.

“As part of the project our wonderful volunteer gardeners have created a fun place where children can play and explore different wildlife habitats including bug hotels which have been built by some of our Day Hospice patients.”
