Going, going, gone . . . Telford office block bites the dust

It has taken less than a month but a prominent Telford building has now disappeared from the town’s landscape.

Demolition work on Reynolds House, which stood on Ironmasters Way, finished earlier this week after beginning at the start of February.

The distinctive red and mirrored building had fallen into disrepair before its sale to Housing Plus Group.

The organisation is about to start building a new head office, revitalising a dilapidated section of Telford’s town centre.

Sarah Boden, chief executive of Housing Plus, said the organisation was pleased with the pace of the work and excited about making it their new home.

She said: “We are delighted with progress on the site. The demolition has really transformed the skyline and we are now looking forward to enhancing it with the building of our flagship HQ.”

The plans involve the construction of a three-storey, 30,000 sq ft building with 78 parking spaces.

Housing Plus Group, which provides homes and care services in Shropshire and Staffordshire, says it is hoping to move into their new building early next year.

The organisation is one of the biggest local employers, with 600 staff.

Reynolds House was built in the 1980s and was made up of four floors of office space.

Speaking when the plans for the building were announced Ms Boden said it would allow the organisation to base itself in one place.

She said: “Since our merger in October 2016, Housing Plus Group has operated two head offices.

“A new home for the group will improve services for customers and reduce our operating costs, enabling us to invest more money into providing more homes and services for local people.

“It will also help make a successful local organisation even more resilient as well as enhancing this prominent part of the town centre.”
