Warning over illegal tattooists operating in Telford

Council bosses are warning residents to be aware of illegal tattooists and piercers operating in the borough.

Telford & Wrekin Council has received a number of reports of mobile piercers and tattooists, who are not licensed, operating in Telford.

Their work has led to customers having to turn to legitimate and legal businesses to get it rectified.

The council's health and safety team only licenses piercers and tattooists who work from a fixed address. It also has local by-laws to ensure the cleanliness of the person and the property that is registered.

Telford & Wrekin Council does not license mobile operators and risks of infections are significantly increased if they visit customers at the customer's home.

Any residents in the borough who are unsure if an operator offering piercing and tattoos is registered with the council, can ask to see their registration certificate – which should be on display in their premises at all times.

You can also call the council on 01952 381818 or email environmental.health@telford.gov.uk, to see if they are on the register. The council is also asking any residents who have information about the mobile operators offering piercings or tattoos, to contact them.
