Hundreds of people have responded to plans to bring in council-run traffic wardens in Telford.

A consultation on inconsiderate and illegal parking across the Telford & Wrekin borough has received more than 700 responses.

People have had their say on the state of parking in the town, and have shared information about where problems are and how wardens could tackle congestion and bad parking.

It is part of efforts by the council to take powers over parking enforcement in the area, allowing them to be more pro-active in keeping roads safe by issuing fines.

West Mercia Police officers currently have the responsibility to enforce the law, but often do not have the resources to do so. It means many issues of illegal parking in the borough go unpunished.

Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman Russell Griffin said: “We have had more than 700 responses so far and we are very pleased with how it is going.

"However we could always do with more and we would particularly like to hear the views of more small businesses. Residents have until midnight on October 14 to give us their views."

It is hoped the civil parking enforcement powers will pass necessary legal hurdles and gets approved by the Department of Transport by autumn 2019.
