Sponsored sing to support polio campaign
A Telford choir is staging a seven-hour sponsored sing to raise money towards an international campaign to eradicate polio.
Hadley & District Orpheus Male Choice is staging The Big Purple Sing on March 16 at Hadley Community Centre, supporting Rotary's International's Purple4Polio campaign.
The event is from 2pm to 9pm and entry is free.
Chris Mansell of the choir said: "People will be able to pick their own favourites for us to sing. There will be a list on the wall of our repertoire, and people will be able to pick what they want, put some money in the box, and we will sing it for them.
"Our repertoire is well over 70 songs, I would think, and goes back to time immemorial, so we might not be able to give the best rendition we have done of it, but we will certainly attempt it."
At full strength, he said, the choir had 46 members and there would be a core of singers during the seven hours, with the hope that the last two hours from 7pm to 9pm would have a concert format.
"We did something similar for Children In Need three years ago and raised over £2,000."
Refreshments will be available and there will be a bar.
